This policy explains how Innovating Chaos collects, uses and protects personal information when you use this website, contact us, or complete the Expert Practice Diagnostic.

Who we are

Innovating Chaos is a trading name of Innovating Chaos Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 12803972. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

What we collect

When you browse the website

Standard technical information including your IP address, browser type, pages viewed and referring page. We use this to keep the site secure and to understand how it is used.

When you contact us

Your name, email address, telephone number and the content of your enquiry.

When you complete the Expert Practice Diagnostic

The diagnostic is a professional intake questionnaire and collects considerably more detail than a contact form. Depending on your answers it may include:

  • Identity and contact details — name, email address, telephone number and LinkedIn profile.
  • Professional background — current role, organisation, location, career history, qualifications and credentials.
  • Commercial information — target income, hours you can commit, intended timing of a career transition, and pricing expectations.
  • Descriptions of your expertise, methods, intellectual property and point of view.
  • Anonymised examples of client or project outcomes. We ask you not to include client names, health information, employer-confidential information or other identifiable third-party details.
  • Your consent confirmations, and the date and time of submission.
  • The IP address used to submit the form, for spam and abuse prevention.

If you include personal data about other people in your answers, you are responsible for ensuring you may lawfully share it. We ask you to anonymise these examples, and we may redact identifiable third-party details.

Drafts saved in your browser

While you complete the diagnostic, your answers are saved locally in your own browser so you can return without losing work. This draft stays on your device and is not transmitted to us until you select Submit diagnostic. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site. If you are using a shared or public computer, please clear it when you finish.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To respond to your enquiry and assess whether we can help — taking steps at your request before entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in evaluating prospective engagements.
  • To prepare and deliver consulting services — performance of a contract.
  • To keep the website secure and prevent abuse — our legitimate interest in protecting our systems.
  • To send you marketing, where you have asked us to — your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations — compliance with a legal obligation.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with providers who help us operate this website, and only as far as necessary:

  • Our website and email hosting provider, which stores the website database and delivers our email.
  • Google — we use Google Fonts to render typefaces and Google reCAPTCHA to prevent automated form abuse. Both receive your IP address and basic device information. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Automattic — Gravatar is used to display avatars alongside blog comments, and receives a hashed version of your email address.
  • Our professional advisers, where we are required to share information.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as UK International Data Transfer Agreements, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or a finding of adequacy.

How long we keep it

  • General website enquiries: 24 months from your last contact with us.
  • Diagnostic responses where no engagement follows: 12 months, after which they are deleted.
  • Diagnostic responses and records for clients we work with: 6 years after the engagement ends, for contractual and tax purposes.
  • Marketing consents: until you withdraw your consent.

Diagnostic responses are stored privately within our WordPress website and are not publicly accessible. Access is restricted to authorised Innovating Chaos personnel.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to request access to your personal information; to have inaccurate information corrected; to request erasure; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. You can also object to direct marketing at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at admin@innovatingchaos.com. We will respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Security

This website is served over HTTPS. Diagnostic responses are stored in our website database with access limited to authorised administrators. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. Please do not send sensitive personal data, health information or employer-confidential material through the diagnostic; if supporting material is needed we will agree a secure channel with you.

Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for the website to function, including a session cookie when you log in and cookies set by Google reCAPTCHA to distinguish humans from automated traffic. Google Fonts and Gravatar may also set or read identifiers when their content loads. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the site from working.

The diagnostic and any resulting discussion are commercial and strategic in nature. They are not legal, financial, clinical or regulatory advice and should not be relied on as such.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
